Edge
At the beginning of each session, draw a number of Edge tokens equal to your character’s Edge score. Ideally, you should find some sort of counters to use—poker chips, glass beads, playing cards or even tally marks on paper might suffice. If you are the GM, draw a number of Edge equal to the number of other players present at the session. These are shared between all NPCs.
Edge represents the subtle advantages your character has in the narrative or in the world at large—call it fortune, fate or karma. As you draw additional Edge or spend them, you can think of this as being lucky or as your luck running out. The GM may even require that you explain how your character has gotten lucky!
Pushing Your Luck
After any test has been made, but before the results have been announced, you may opt to push your luck by spending an Edge token. Pick up your dice and reroll, adding a Stress ⊕ to the test (see page XXX). You may opt to take whichever result is better.
Mikolaj is trying to swing between loose elevator cables. Unfortunately, he rolls a 2. He decides to push his luck, spending an Edge token and rerolling the test with a Stress ⊕. Since he has a ⊕, he rolls two dice. He gets a 7 and a 3. He decides to take the second roll, keeping the 7 and discarding the 3.
Simeon is attempting to convince a corp investigator that he wasn’t at the scene of the crime last night. Unfortunately, he has a weakness which imposes a ⊖ on this test. He rolls two dice, getting a 1 and a 5, which he doesn’t think will be sufficient, so he spends an Edge token to push his luck. This time he gains a Stress ⊕, which cancels out his ⊖. He rolls a single die and gets a 10. Now Simeon is confident his ruse will succeed.
Reducing Stress
At any time, you may opt to reduce your Stress value by spending an Edge token. When you do this, remove a Stressed consequence. This lowers your Stress value by one (see page XXX).
Gaining Edge
Several mechanics allow you to draw additional Edge during play. These include Weakness traits and critical failures. When one of these applies, simply take the indicated number of Edge tokens and place them in front of you. Your number of tokens may go above your Edge score in this way.
