Converting Characters

The core of converting any Shadows Over Sol scenario is converting its characters—including the team, its allies, contacts and foes.

Player Characters

Player characters have enough mechanical nuance that it’s best to simply rebuild them using the second edition character creation rules, keeping in mind the character’s basic concept, subculture and geneline.

Experienced characters can port over their number of previously earned experiences directly, using them to purchase stats, skills and traits, as per the second edition rules.

Non-Player Characters

As opposed to player characters, non-player characters can be easily converted by the GM as needed. Simply take the NPC’s stats and use them to calculate the second edition scores. Skills can be used as is, keeping in mind the first and second edition equivalents (see Skills below). Gear can be looked up in the second edition Gear chapter when first used.

Monstrosities

Converting a monstricity works exactly like converting any other non-player character, except that most monstrosities have one or more creature traits that need to be converted to second edition as well.

To handle these, the GM should begin by looking through the list of standard second edition creature traits beginning on page xxx. Most traits possessed by first edition monstrosities can be represented by one of more of the traits in the list. However, if no trait is a good fit, the GM is free to come up with her own, keeping in mind the mechanical differences between the editions.
